As a senior product designer, I collaborated with a Berlin-based energy equipment and solutions service to enhance their existing dashboard with data-driven elements. The client's goal was to provide their customers with insights into their energy consumption in both kWh and monetary value. To accomplish this, I worked within the established design framework to develop a range of easily digestible options that effectively showcased the client's requirements.
I conducted user research with existing dashboard users to facilitate the ideation and design process. By listening to their needs and concerns related to cost-saving for their buildings, I identified the need for a user-friendly and comprehensible component. Leveraging existing design components and information, I utilized color and design to break down individual energy requirements and meet the client's needs for a navigable and understandable interface.
I collaborated with the clients to gather and understand their requirements for the component. Leveraging the data provided by the clients, I created mockups to showcase potential design ideas. Through a category-based breakdown of the required information, I was able to create a modular component system that clients could add to their dashboard at their discretion. Given the existing dashboard, I proceeded directly to high-fidelity mockups and made iterative changes to individual elements in order to fulfill the brief.
Given time constraints and the existence of an established dashboard design, I opted to proceed directly to high-fidelity mockups and created a beta version of the component for testing with a select group of clients. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with particular praise for the ease of use and the effective presentation of information. While some minor changes were necessary due to miscommunications within the complex system, the overall design was well-received.
My task was to understand the needs of both current and potential users and create a design that presented data in a precise and simplistic manner. In this unique situation, I worked to build on the existing designer's work while incorporating my own style.
Despite facing both internal and external challenges, I leveraged my knowledge of the design process to persevere and achieve the desired outcome. Collaboration with the product manager, clients, and development team was key to ensuring the success of the project, and I was fortunate to take ownership of the product and lead it to completion.
